Ateliers deMonaco offers a unique timepiece to support  the 2019 Only Watch auction

Born as an Haute Horlogerie brand, Ateliers deMonaco is all about design, performance, technology, innovation and craftsmanship.

Founded in 2008, the Maison counts 6 in-house movements combining tradition and high-end watchmaking know-how with technical innovation.

Pim Koeslag, co-founder, master watchmaker and CEO of the brand has made his dream come true when he first created his own tourbillon minute repeater movement. Today, he proudly presents another spectacular masterpiece: the Tourbillon – Oculus 1297 Only Watch.

Equipped with the manufacture dMc-980 calibre, the watch is designed, produced, and assembled in Ateliers deMonaco’s workshops. Its patented tourbillon movement called Tourbillon XP1 (eXtreme Precision 1 minute) is one of the most precise in the world with a tolerance between 0 to 2 seconds per 24 hours.

The hand-decorated calibre boasts chamfering, circular graining and satin-finishing decorations, a 22k gold rotor representing the Principality of Monaco’s crown and includes a silicium escape wheel and lever.

A major innovation for this timepiece is its 44mm watch case made from a technique used in the automotive industry called forged carbon. For this timepiece, Ateliers deMonaco developed a new method including 18k gold in the process: carbon fibre, gold and resin are mixed together and placed in a mould. The mixture is then heated and pressed to form a block. After the moulding process, the case is meticulously refined to achieve the perfect shape. Thanks to this exclusive method, the case is thus unique.

The timepiece features a multi-layered decentred dial treated with dark grey PVD and is decorated with a lozenge pattern in relief. Roman numerals and dauphine hands finally come to complete the already beautifully detailed dial.

Hours and minutes can be read on the dial while the small seconds can be read on the Tourbillon opening at 6 o’clock.

A smoke-grey alligator leather strap with nubuck finishing brings additional character to this unique watch.

Ateliers deMonaco is proud to donate this one-of-a-kind timepiece to the Only Watch biennial auction, Only Watch supporting the treatment of muscular dystrophy diseases and pushing the boundaries of science.

New Tourbillon Oculus 1297 Titane

Ateliers deMonaco unveils two new models from its Tourbillon Oculus 1297 collection.

In order to celebrate the first year of the collection Tourbillon Oculus 1297, Ateliers deMonaco unveils two new models with a black titanium case bringing a sportier touch to the collection.

Launched in 2016 and recognisable by its dial composed of small lozenges in relief, this collection is inspired by Monaco’s coat of arms.

Between watchmaking tradition and technological innovation

Emanating from the Tourbillon Oculus 1297 collection, these two new timepieces are equipped with the manufacture dMc-980 calibre. Designed, developed, built and assembled in the Ateliers deMonaco manufacture, this patented tourbillon movement is called: Tourbillon XP1. It is one of the most precise in the world with a tolerance between 0 to 2 seconds per 24 hours.

These two automatic models have the Ateliers deMonaco signature rotor. The latest represents the Principality’s crown which is carefully hand-engraved in 22K gold.

For the first time, the manufacturer envelops its movement with an ultra-light black DLC titanium case.

The dial is made with the use of a new technology: a five axis laser. This latest innovation does not burn the material but enhances it giving the sought-after form. In this case, it is the signature symbol of Ateliers deMonaco: the lozenge. The mention Ateliers deMonaco is also written on the rim of the dial.

The two new models are recognizable by a small dial at 12 o’clock or in rose gold colour or in white gold colour. In order to be faithful to the Oculus model, an opening on the tourbillon’s cage at 6 o’clock allows us to see the heartbeat of the watch.

Lastly, to glorify the whole, the watch is mounted on a black alligator leather strap adorned with a hand-stitched and folding buckle in titanium black DLC for a more convenient use.

A Monegasque inspiration

In 1297, François Grimaldi, took the fortress of Monaco thanks to a stratagem: dressed like a Franciscan monk, he entered in the stronghold with one of his fellow soldiers. Once inside, he was able to open the door to his little army and seized the fortress.

Coat of Arms of the Grimaldi House pays tribute to this history because they are composed of:

“Comprises a silver shield decorated with red diamonds surrounded by the Order of St. Charles collar. It is placed on a red coat lined with ermine, topped by the royal crown.

Standing at each side of the shield are two monks brandishing raised swords. Below them is a banderol with the royal motto Deo Juvante (with God’s Help).”[1]

Central International Watch Fair 2017, Bangkok, Thailand

The new and unique Tourbillon Casino de Monte-carlo

The Casino of Monte-Carlo is one of the great historical buildings of Monaco. Located in the heart of the city, next to the famous Hôtel de Paris, it is one of the most symbolic places of the Principality. In order to honour this beautiful monument, the watch manufacture Ateliers deMonaco took its inspiration from this mythic place and created a unique piece called Tourbillon Casino de Monte-Carlo.

For the love of the game

This prestigious watch is composed of an automatic mechanism named Tourbillon XP1. It’s one of the first patented movements of Ateliers deMonaco and it is famous for having an incomparably precise tourbillon since it has a 0 to 2 seconds per 24 hours’ tolerance. This accuracy makes it one of the most precise tourbillon movements in the world.

The calibre is covered with a sumptuous 18K solid white gold dial, passionately hand-engraved by our master engraver and representing the Casino of Monte-Carlo. It is composed of three superposed plates creating an amazing relief on this piece. The first plate showcases the palm tree avenue as well as the steps of the Casino, an opening on the tourbillon’s cage predominates at the centre and reveals the sapphire bridge and thus takes the place of the central fountain. The second, shows the Casino’s facade and its two famous domes. Finally, the last one features the sky and the clouds that overhang the principality’s must see monument. The hours’ indexes are applied on the dial and have a lozenge form, iconic symbol of the brand and the crest of Monaco.

This splendid dial is encased in a 18K white gold brushed case, this sophisticated finish emphasises the hand-engraving work on the dial. Only the case’s edges are polished, bringing out the lines of this fine timepiece. The case-back is hand-engraved with the mention: Pièce Unique Casino de Monte-Carlo.

Moreover, the watch is linked seamlessly by a black alligator leather strap equipped with a 18K white gold folding buckle brings a flawless finishing at this watch.

Brief history of the Casino of Monte-Carlo

Founded by François Blanc, founder of the Société des Bains de Mer and located on the plateau des Spélugues, between the Hôtel de Paris, the Pavillon and the Café de Paris, the Casino de Monte-Carlo was inaugurated in 1863 and marks the beginning of the society life of Monte-Carlo.

Designed by Charles Garnier and in a Belle Époque style architecture, it was refurbished several times and took its current form in 1910.

This new unique timepiece from the Ateliers deMonaco manufacture should certainly meet the expectations of both casino and game lovers.

Baselworld 2017 – Ateliers deMonaco launches two new timepieces: La Sirène Diamant & La Sirène Rubis

In 2009, Ateliers deMonaco created La Sirène inspired by Princess Charlene of Monaco. This timepiece celebrated Ateliers deMonaco’s first entry in high jewellery segment. For the design of the dial, the brand used the King Protea pattern which is the national flower of South-Africa – home country of Princess Charlene. This first timepiece featured light blue topaz stones reminiscent of the colour of the princess’ eyes.

Eight years after the creation of this beautiful timepiece, and especially for Baselworld 2017, Ateliers deMonaco decided to enrich La Sirène collection with two new models: La Sirène Diamant & La Sirène Rubis.

La Sirène timepieces are powered by the in-house automatic dMc-700 calibre which is wound by a 22K solid gold rotor engraved with the shield of the Principality of Monaco. These watches have a power reserve of 42 hours and have a frequency of 28’800 beats per hour. Fully respecting the Ateliers deMonaco aesthetics, these calibres are housed in an 18K white gold case of 39mm diameter. As a final touch, the decorations of each components are executed with precision and passion.

La Sirène Diamant

Entirely decorated with G – Top Wesselton diamonds, the colour and the brightness of this timepiece resembles the purity of the woman’s soul. Shrouded in a case set with 297 diamonds, a bezel set with 300 diamonds and a crown set with 20 diamonds; it’s a pure marvel.

A delicate artwork was created on the 18K solid gold dial which is adorned with 120 diamonds set in a flower pattern. The centre dial features a white mother-of-pearl which reflects the light and makes the watch even more feminine.

When the first La Sirène Diamant watch was produced, our research & development team came up with the idea of creating something even more impressive: La Sirène Rubis.

La Sirène Rubis

Considered by many as the most powerful stone, it exudes energy, courage and love. Qualities emanating from every woman. Resilient and inspiring, ruby is the true colour of a women’s heart.

La Sirène Rubis is decorated with three different stones: the Ruby, the Sapphire and the Diamond, which give impression of a red rainbow. The bezel is set with 16 baguette cut rubies, 28 baguette cut sapphires and 2 baguette cut diamonds. Following the same colour shading, the dial embraces 24 rubies, 21 sapphires and 3 diamonds set in flower pattern. In order to highlight this masterpiece, the crown is decorated with one ruby and the strap is as red as the ruby stones.

Ateliers deMonaco is continuously thriving to create iconic timepieces that are derived from passion to challenge existing convention to leave a true legacy.

Ateliers deMonaco created a unique timepiece for the FC Barcelona football player Daniel Alves

dMc_TourbillonOculus_PieceUnique_Barcelona_January2016_DaniAlves_PimKoeslag_Color

To honour an extraordinarily talented man, Ateliers deMonaco created a unique timepiece for the famous Brazilian football player Daniel Alves on the occasion of his nomination at the FIFA/FIFPro World XI Award 2015.

For many years now the exciting game of football has been the inspiration behind some of Haute Horlogerie most complicated and sophisticated timepieces. Playing for FC Barcelona since 2008, Daniel Alves became famous for being one of the best defenders in the world. He earned a place in the FIFA FIFPro World XI for 2015 during the ceremony of the FIFA Ballon d’Or 2015, which took place in Zurich on January, 11th.

Both football player and watchmaker have in common the passion for precision and skill. Ateliers deMonaco admires these qualities in Daniel Alves as a sportsman. He embodies professionalism paired with vitality and team spirit. In honour of his talent and his great career, the independent high-end luxury watch brand Ateliers deMonaco have created a unique timepiece called the Tourbillon Oculus – Dani Alves.

This personalised timepiece was specially designed for Daniel Alves, who’s an enthusiastic person with a creative mind and an adventurous personality.

Handcrafted by our skilled watchmakers and dedicated to the highest level of precision, the Tourbillon Oculus is truly as artful as Daniel Alves is on the field. This watch is powered by its own in-house developed and patented Xtreme Precision Tourbillon movement. This calibre encapsulates a unique hybrid between craftsmanship and innovative technology, delivering one of the most accurate Tourbillon movements in the world today.

This movement is housed in an 18k rose gold case of 44mm that features a beautiful subdial in sapphire. The design of this unique timepiece is underlined by the wonderfully delicate “Côtes de Genève” decoration and the dial aperture at 6 o’clock that shows the hand engraved tourbillon cage held by a sapphire bridge. The case back of the Tourbillon Oculus enables the finesse and sophistication of the details of the movement to be observed, such as the perlage finishing and the hand engraved 22K gold rotor.

The Tourbillon Oculus is finished with a personalized hand-stitched alligator strap and is delivered in a very elegant custom-made box. It’s undeniable that this unique watch will remain a signature piece forever, just as unique as Daniel Alves.

Company story – episode 2

The dream
As so often in life, the desire to leave a legacy is a great motivation to achieve the unthinkable. And often during the late night and weekend sessions in the ateliers, discussion would focus on what leaving a legacy in the watch industry would mean these days. Was not almost everything already invented and designed? Yes and no was the conclusion. Great inventions had been made, but arguably their functionality was not always as good and consumer friendly as the original intend. For instance, despite the Tourbillon movement was invented to increase accuracy, yet most of these beautiful pieces of mechanical engineering and design, will actually not deliver on its original intend. The principle and functionality of a Perpetual Calendar is already designed, but if for whatever reason you need to adjust the calendar, it will easily cost you a lot of time and frustration to adjust, if at all you will be able to do so without causing damage to the complication. The fact that everything is designed yet does not only hold true for technology, but also goes for branding. When was the last time you’ve seen a brand that is proud to live in the here and now, and not fall into the temptation of abusing heritage as a seal of craftsmanship? And herein lies the nugget of the shared dream – creating a new high-end watch brand, designed for the generation that lives now— using a hybrid between the best of modern technology and traditional craftsmanship. As the nouvelle cuisine was trying to set a new standard and fresh impulse in cooking trends, so should this brand try to give a fresh impulse to Haute Horlogerie: let’s call it the ‘Nouvelle Horlogerie’.

Location & founding
As the intent of the new brand was not to copy the category conventions of the past decades, there were no limitations in the initial search. It needed to be a place that could provide enough inspiration for the people working for the brand, while also carry sufficient aspiration for those that the brand was designing for: Monaco and its surroundings. This place is not only one of the more appealing places on earth at the moment, but it has a long standing heritage of attracting some of the biggest innovators in several fields of expertise: painters like Picasso, Chagall, Matisse (or more recently like the Dutch sculptor Verkade); architects like Le Corbusier; poets and writers like Chekhov and Cocteau; and philosophers like Nietzsche. And importantly, these people did not only reside in this area, but delivered some of their best work while in the region. Of course, the breathtaking scenery of the Mediterranean against the startling rock formation of the Alps, and the warm blanket of the climate makes the combination picture perfect! After the location was determined, over a year went by to incorporate the company in Monaco and find the appropriate location for the Ateliers in the Princedom. It is important to be a genuine Monegasque company that is woven in to the local fabric of life. And all of this culminates in the brand proudly stating its origin on the final time pieces: Made in Monaco!
