BASELWORLD 2015 – ATELIERS DE MONACO / INTRODUCES THE “ADMIRAL COLLECTION”

2015 will be the year in which Ateliers deMonaco (dMc) will start producing its own in-house flyback chronograph movements, adding yet another to our roster of in-house made movements and serving as the basis for the new released Admiral collection.

As per our innovation tradition of making complications work simpler and better, our patented manufacture flyback chronograph, which measures a succession of elapsed times, eliminates many superfluous repetitive operations. On ordinary chronographs, the buttons must be pressed three times in succession to measure successive intervals: once to stop the chronograph, once to reset it to zero, once to start again. With the flyback function, pressing the “flyback” button once stops timing the first interval and resets the hand to zero. The chronograph hand starts again the instant the button is released.

Return to zero mechanism

A pending patent for the ”Direct Return to Zero” mechanism :

this mechanism is unlike other chronographs directly actionned by the 4 o’clock pusher. The advantage of this mechanism is that it has a multi function Flyback Hammer. This Flyback Hammer is programmed to action the disengage the chronograph clutch wheel, engage the brake, turn the chronograph second and minute wheel.

The honorary title “Admiratus Admiratorum” (the most admired of the admired) was believed to have been given during the reign of the Norman ruler Roger II (1095–1154) to his naval commander George of Antioch. The word “admiral” has today come to be almost exclusively associated with the leading position in most of the world’s navies, equivalent to the army rank of General. Still today, appreciated by pilots for the time it saves, this complication is particularly admired for its use in navigation, racing and by commanders of any challenge alike!

Our Philosophy – deMonaco was founded in 2008 to let the next generation watchmakers create timepieces of exceptional quality, with the latest innovation and the rarest, most exquisite and robust materials; to go far beyond what was considered possible. Our dream is one of relentless reinvention and commitment to bring you the extraordinary: we call it Nouvelle Horlogerie! We do this not only by putting something truly exceptional on your wrist but also by ensuring your deMonaco timepiece is more than an object of desire, a true reflection of your individuality. What unites us with our clients is the belief that life is not only about luxury, but luxury sure is life!

The Admiral Chronograph is made in a limited edition of 88 pieces in each version (18Kt rose gold or 18Kt white gold).

BASELWORLD 2015 – NEW ATELIERS DEMONACO “PDG” COLLECTION WITH THE PRESTIGIOUS POINCON DE GENEVE CERTIFICATION

On the occasion of the opening of its new Ateliers in Geneva, Ateliers deMonaco (dMc) has been granted the prestigious “Poinçon de Genève” for its latest new collection “The PdG”.

Originally created in 1886 to combat counter fits, the “Poinçon de Genève” is a quality certification of the watch as a whole. Given the strict standards used, the “Poinçon de Genève” is the most demanding signature for quality in fine watchmaking, and only a very few can carry in the Haute Horlogerie.

The assessment for the “Poinçon de Genève” is conducted by officially appointed sworn inspectors from TIMELAB : the Geneva Laboratory of Horology and Micro-engineering. As a neutral and independent institution, the very strict rules governing the “Poinçon de Genève” guarantees the provenance and know-how, flawless quality of components, certification to finishing and accuracy, lastly the ultimate seal of quality and craftsmanship. For instance, all parts of the movement, from the main caliber’s plate to the smallest screw, are thus finished according to traditional techniques including polished chamfers, straight-grained sides, smoothed down or leveled faces, polished or circular-grained screw heads with chamfered edges. All the watches produced in Switzerland each year, only a very few bear the “Poinçon de Genève” certification.

On top of de “Poinçon de Genève” certification, the new released dMc PdG timepieces also include our latest innovation with the patented “Freebeat” adjustment system. In a conventional regulation system, pins on both side of the hairspring are used to regulate how much it can wind and unwind hence regulating the speed of the balance wheel. By allowing the hairspring to bounce against these pins, in combination to gravity forces, the unfortunate side effect of these collisions is that it interferes with the precision of the movement itself. Our newly patented “Freebeat Regulation System” allows us to regulate the length of the hairspring with an adjustable “crémaillère” (straight bar with teeth on one edge, allowing it to be fixated at different length) obsoleting the need for the pins and thus avoiding the interference!

About the “Poinçon de Genève”

The “Poinçon de Genève”, the certification label for fine watchmaking, is only of value if the application of all its criteria is controlled. The organizations responsible for overseeing the application of these rules comprise an independently operated legislative body, executive body and judicial body. The supreme entity authorized by the Geneva Council of State is the Foundation Council of TIMELAB : Geneva Laboratory of Horology and Micro engineering. It is the legal body and only guarantor of the “Poinçon de Genève”. The “Poinçon de Genève” Technical Commission serves as its legislative body. Its mission is to define the criteria and update the rules to reflect technological innovations. The “Poinçon de Genève” Office fulfills the role of the executive body. Through its approval, certification and audit units, it constantly oversees the application of the “Poinçon de Genève” criteria throughout every stage in the manufacture of a timepiece. The PdG collection is made in a limited edition of 18 pieces per model, and retails as of CHF 18’500.-

Basel Novelties – step 1

For any parent, their first born child always carriers something special, and the same goes for our launch collection. We launched our brand in 2009 with the Grand Tourbillon XP-1, an Xtreme Precision technology that allows the 28800 beats an hour to be translated into pure accuracy, regulated to have a tolerance between 0-2 seconds/24H, one of the most precise Tourbillons in the world! And with the sapphire bridge, we were able to achieve the floating 60 seconds Tourbillon see-through-effect at 6 o’clock. To commemorate and celebrate our 5 year milestone, we aim to enhance our line-up with a more classical and traditional looking version. See first proof of concept we gave to the technical and development team at the start of this project. We will keep you updated on progress next 2 month, with a target launch date during Baselworld by the end of March….
