Ateliers deMonaco offers a unique timepiece to support  the 2019 Only Watch auction

Born as an Haute Horlogerie brand, Ateliers deMonaco is all about design, performance, technology, innovation and craftsmanship.

Founded in 2008, the Maison counts 6 in-house movements combining tradition and high-end watchmaking know-how with technical innovation.

Pim Koeslag, co-founder, master watchmaker and CEO of the brand has made his dream come true when he first created his own tourbillon minute repeater movement. Today, he proudly presents another spectacular masterpiece: the Tourbillon – Oculus 1297 Only Watch.

Equipped with the manufacture dMc-980 calibre, the watch is designed, produced, and assembled in Ateliers deMonaco’s workshops. Its patented tourbillon movement called Tourbillon XP1 (eXtreme Precision 1 minute) is one of the most precise in the world with a tolerance between 0 to 2 seconds per 24 hours.

The hand-decorated calibre boasts chamfering, circular graining and satin-finishing decorations, a 22k gold rotor representing the Principality of Monaco’s crown and includes a silicium escape wheel and lever.

A major innovation for this timepiece is its 44mm watch case made from a technique used in the automotive industry called forged carbon. For this timepiece, Ateliers deMonaco developed a new method including 18k gold in the process: carbon fibre, gold and resin are mixed together and placed in a mould. The mixture is then heated and pressed to form a block. After the moulding process, the case is meticulously refined to achieve the perfect shape. Thanks to this exclusive method, the case is thus unique.

The timepiece features a multi-layered decentred dial treated with dark grey PVD and is decorated with a lozenge pattern in relief. Roman numerals and dauphine hands finally come to complete the already beautifully detailed dial.

Hours and minutes can be read on the dial while the small seconds can be read on the Tourbillon opening at 6 o’clock.

A smoke-grey alligator leather strap with nubuck finishing brings additional character to this unique watch.

Ateliers deMonaco is proud to donate this one-of-a-kind timepiece to the Only Watch biennial auction, Only Watch supporting the treatment of muscular dystrophy diseases and pushing the boundaries of science.

A new Prato model joins the Admiral Chronographe Flyback collection in partnership with Prato Automobiles

This year, Ateliers deMonaco has introduced a new model to its prestigious Admiral Chronographe Flyback collection; the Prato. The pieces – launched in March of this year – were presented as the fruit of the brand’s new partnership with Prato Automobiles. Further completing the collection, is a new timepiece in rose gold. A standout piece that asserts the brand’s luxurious standards and passion for mechanics.

An ideal partnership

If two worlds were made to collide, watchmaking and automobiles were the ideal candidates.

The two industries definitely echo each other on many levels – precision, a care for detail and a smart design are just a few mere examples. It is therefore no surprise that Ateliers deMonaco and Prato Automobiles came together in an effort to bring their ideals into a series of fine timepieces.

A rose gold marvel of mechanics and aesthetics

An addition to the chronographs released earlier this year, Ateliers deMonaco’s rose gold newcomer needn’t envy its predecessors.

Its shiny 18K rose gold polished case houses the brand’s automatic hand-decorated dMc-760 caliber – the heart of the patented Flyback complication which offers its wearer, a single gesture to go from one measurement of time to another. Protecting this complex mechanical core, a delicate carbon fiber and 18K rose gold dial. Thanks to a specific technique often used in the automotive industry, each dial is meticulously finished and, more importantly, unique.

A face further enhanced by black PVD treated applied roman numerals and the Prato logo.

Finally, the counters and Dauphine hands complete the timepieceoffering a powerful and playful contrast with the rich, textured dial.

Savoir-faire

Because beauty should come from within, Ateliers deMonaco takes pride and patience in preparing its components and assembling its movements. The dMc-760 makes no exception to the rule.

The in-house caliber is composed of 226 components split in two essential parts. The first is the base movement, intended to bring to life the hours, minutes and seconds of the watch. The second is the module carrying the flyback chronograph mechanism, which relies on 96 components.

The movement is assembled by hand by the brand’s skilful watchmakers, a long and delicate process which requires both experience and finesse.

New Tourbillon Oculus 1297 Titane

Ateliers deMonaco unveils two new models from its Tourbillon Oculus 1297 collection.

In order to celebrate the first year of the collection Tourbillon Oculus 1297, Ateliers deMonaco unveils two new models with a black titanium case bringing a sportier touch to the collection.

Launched in 2016 and recognisable by its dial composed of small lozenges in relief, this collection is inspired by Monaco’s coat of arms.

Between watchmaking tradition and technological innovation

Emanating from the Tourbillon Oculus 1297 collection, these two new timepieces are equipped with the manufacture dMc-980 calibre. Designed, developed, built and assembled in the Ateliers deMonaco manufacture, this patented tourbillon movement is called: Tourbillon XP1. It is one of the most precise in the world with a tolerance between 0 to 2 seconds per 24 hours.

These two automatic models have the Ateliers deMonaco signature rotor. The latest represents the Principality’s crown which is carefully hand-engraved in 22K gold.

For the first time, the manufacturer envelops its movement with an ultra-light black DLC titanium case.

The dial is made with the use of a new technology: a five axis laser. This latest innovation does not burn the material but enhances it giving the sought-after form. In this case, it is the signature symbol of Ateliers deMonaco: the lozenge. The mention Ateliers deMonaco is also written on the rim of the dial.

The two new models are recognizable by a small dial at 12 o’clock or in rose gold colour or in white gold colour. In order to be faithful to the Oculus model, an opening on the tourbillon’s cage at 6 o’clock allows us to see the heartbeat of the watch.

Lastly, to glorify the whole, the watch is mounted on a black alligator leather strap adorned with a hand-stitched and folding buckle in titanium black DLC for a more convenient use.

A Monegasque inspiration

In 1297, François Grimaldi, took the fortress of Monaco thanks to a stratagem: dressed like a Franciscan monk, he entered in the stronghold with one of his fellow soldiers. Once inside, he was able to open the door to his little army and seized the fortress.

Coat of Arms of the Grimaldi House pays tribute to this history because they are composed of:

“Comprises a silver shield decorated with red diamonds surrounded by the Order of St. Charles collar. It is placed on a red coat lined with ermine, topped by the royal crown.

Standing at each side of the shield are two monks brandishing raised swords. Below them is a banderol with the royal motto Deo Juvante (with God’s Help).”[1]

Fifth Annual Independent Watch and Art Salon Exhibition Taiwan Unfolds on 28 September

Asia’s Premium Independent Watch Event Lines Up 10 Independent Swiss Watchmaking Brands. Presenting this year’s theme “Steampunk”

Devoted to the passion to independent watchmaking, the now fifth Independent Watch & Art Salon Taiwan (IWST) will be held on September 28, 2017 at the Art Gallery located at B1, Bellavita. Due to its rapidly growing success, the event is now one of the key exhibitions for independent watches in Asia with now 10 major brands participating. Apart from showcasing latest creations by these prestigious independent watchmakers, as in its tradition, IWST will once again work with Taiwan’s local artists to visually interpret the essence of IWST as well as fusing the creativity of the East and the West. In addition, taking the theme of “Steampunk”, IWST will take us back to the glory of the Victorian Era.

Reflecting on the past year, the haute horlogerie industry, mostly headed by watchmakers from Switzerland, faced an extremely difficult year. All the leading players implemented drastic strategies and decisions as response to the market crisis, including change of ownership. On the other hand, independent watches, each with its innovative and creative styles and lower in production volume were able to maintain its success. These watches have become more and more collector’s pieces. As the result, they still stand out with excellent market performances. This success is reflected in this year’s IWST exhibition with the same impressive lineup of participating brands. And their innovative designs will for sure to appeal to more and more audience in the future.

10 Prestigious Independent Watch Brands, 10 Luxurious Watchmaking Arts

As the distributor of numerous premium independent watches, Swiss Prestige presents an impressive list of participating brands for IWST: Atelier deMonaco, a watchmaking brand that takes inspiration from the rich culture and heritage of Monaco to create the world’s most precision mechanical movements, will be attending the event for the first time. Christophe Claret, a symbolic brand for premium Swiss independent watches that always stir up the industry with its creations, will be attending for the fifth time in a row. Greubel Forsey, an expert in finely crafted precision mechanisms in pursuit of zero time error, is also making its attendance as usual. HYT, the watchmaker that pioneers in fluidics watches, will be presenting more innovative creations this year.

MB&F, a highly acclaimed brand with rare but highly sought-after watches and a brand that is very highly regarded at top international auctions is expected to introduce a mysterious new creation at this year’s IWST. M.A.D Gallery, also from MB&F, will also undoubtedly be presenting several enchanting mechanical devices.  Manufacture Royale, a brand established by French philosopher Voltaire, will be introducing its latest works that feature unimaginable complications. Speake Marin, an innovative watch brand established by the visionary English watchmaker, after the change of management, will for sure be bringing us more ingenious watch pieces. Romain Gauthier, a brand that only manufactures 50-60 timepieces each year and viewed as the true apprentice of Philippe Dufour, another visionary pioneer in independent watchmaking will be attending for the first time this year. And lastly, URWERK, an award-winning brand known for its revolving satellite complications and a brand whose watch was the designated watch for Robert Downy Jr. in the film “Spider Man: Homecoming” will also be making its attendance.

The Glamorous Steampunk at IWST 2017

Following the success of annual themes of “Infinity Gear” and “Watchmaking Wonderland” in the previous years, IWST introduces “Steampunk” as the theme for 2017. The exhibition starts with blueprints of the Industrial Revolution of the past century and moves through motifs from the Victorian Era and contemporary sci-fi details, bringing to us the various elements, including gears, watches, mechanical devices, and more from the films of Japanese film director Miyazaki Hayao. And to echo the spirit of this theme, the exhibition also presents artworks of Taiwan’s artist Tsung- Ti Huang, an artist whose works are full of industrial artwork style that focus on handwork details. These works mixes the forms from Chinese mythology “Classics of the Mountains and Seas” with Punksteam style.

2017 IWST exhibition will start on September 27, 2017 at the Art Gallery located at B1, Bellavita. The first day for the 4-day exhibition is a private opening party. And September 28 and 29 will be reserved for VIP private views. The exhibition will be open to public on September 30. Please do not miss this rare opportunity to look inside the world of independent watchmaking and experience it from a different perspective.

The new and unique Tourbillon Casino de Monte-carlo

The Casino of Monte-Carlo is one of the great historical buildings of Monaco. Located in the heart of the city, next to the famous Hôtel de Paris, it is one of the most symbolic places of the Principality. In order to honour this beautiful monument, the watch manufacture Ateliers deMonaco took its inspiration from this mythic place and created a unique piece called Tourbillon Casino de Monte-Carlo.

For the love of the game

This prestigious watch is composed of an automatic mechanism named Tourbillon XP1. It’s one of the first patented movements of Ateliers deMonaco and it is famous for having an incomparably precise tourbillon since it has a 0 to 2 seconds per 24 hours’ tolerance. This accuracy makes it one of the most precise tourbillon movements in the world.

The calibre is covered with a sumptuous 18K solid white gold dial, passionately hand-engraved by our master engraver and representing the Casino of Monte-Carlo. It is composed of three superposed plates creating an amazing relief on this piece. The first plate showcases the palm tree avenue as well as the steps of the Casino, an opening on the tourbillon’s cage predominates at the centre and reveals the sapphire bridge and thus takes the place of the central fountain. The second, shows the Casino’s facade and its two famous domes. Finally, the last one features the sky and the clouds that overhang the principality’s must see monument. The hours’ indexes are applied on the dial and have a lozenge form, iconic symbol of the brand and the crest of Monaco.

This splendid dial is encased in a 18K white gold brushed case, this sophisticated finish emphasises the hand-engraving work on the dial. Only the case’s edges are polished, bringing out the lines of this fine timepiece. The case-back is hand-engraved with the mention: Pièce Unique Casino de Monte-Carlo.

Moreover, the watch is linked seamlessly by a black alligator leather strap equipped with a 18K white gold folding buckle brings a flawless finishing at this watch.

Brief history of the Casino of Monte-Carlo

Founded by François Blanc, founder of the Société des Bains de Mer and located on the plateau des Spélugues, between the Hôtel de Paris, the Pavillon and the Café de Paris, the Casino de Monte-Carlo was inaugurated in 1863 and marks the beginning of the society life of Monte-Carlo.

Designed by Charles Garnier and in a Belle Époque style architecture, it was refurbished several times and took its current form in 1910.

This new unique timepiece from the Ateliers deMonaco manufacture should certainly meet the expectations of both casino and game lovers.
